Shimon Perez at Le Web 3

Quick extracts from the talk of Shimon Perez, Nobel Prize for Peace and former Israeli leader:

People see the world as a mess. They seem depressed. Fanaticism, extremism.. The world is not dying..the world is pregnant of a new age.

We can stop to remember and use Google. Our task is creating, discovering, making a living not from what we have but from what we discover. That’s a change from traditional memory to imagination.

Internet saves a lot of time.Life is so short, why to waste it. Internet is open, free, free of prejudice and maybe the most important task of the Internet is bringing a new generation to the future. People stopped reading papers, looking at television, they are using internet for entertainment, dating but also more serious tasks.

So I would say an age is over a new age is born. The most important change is that state borders, countries are loosing importance. We used borders to divide the world, to defense piece of land, to justify wars. Why do we need borders? You cannot put borders into science or wisdom. Also economy is becoming an economy without lands and boundaries.

Government has budgets not money. Money is the hands of entrepreneurs that anyway don’t have budgets. In old age wealth was a matter of accumulation: buildings, cars, gold. Accumulation doesn’t stand the test of time. It’s not what you accumulated but what you produce. Governments are very conservative while modern companies have a innovating attitude. Today men can create an economic state by itself. Think to Bill Gates. Take the two young boys that created Google. They didn’t cheat, didn’t kill.

And there’s no private companies because the minute you become popular you become public. You care about international stability and peace.

It is a tremendous change and we are just at the beginning. With it comes a big responsibility.

Now the most fascinating thing is what is happening in China. Their government is fighting an idealogical work against democracy. But modern economic forces China to change, be more transparent and open. This is a lost war.

Now companies are paid for their potential, for their ideas and innovation capacity. You must measure economy by its potential.

The new force is not diplomatic, is not political, is not in armies. It is modern science, modern technology and modern companies. We need economic preparation for political solutions in Middle East.

Democracy is not only the right for each person to be equal but also the equal right for each person to be different.
