Using Yahoo API exposed through “Search Web Services”, John Herren access Yahoo content and services to build a new useful layer on Yahoo News called News Tag Soup.

News Tag Soup is an experiment on automatic news organization and retrieval using tagging: news are retrieved from Yahoo News and keywords are automatically associated to them.

Keywords (or tag) are taken from the Content Analysis web service, a Yahoo service that publishes important keywords for their own news feeds.

Tag Soup gives also the opportunity to see:

• all the tags for every news
• the news (actually title and abstract) associated with a tag
• popularity list for every tag and for the more popular tags as well

This is the Web 2.0, the platform in which information can seemlessly flow between different applications that can enrich and aggregate it, creating new units of significance leveraging international standards.
