Keeping Found Things Found (KFTF)

From Peter Van Dijck’s Guide to Ease a very interesting segnalation about a research study going on at Information School at the University of Washington.

The importance of this project is explained very well:

The goal of this study is to understand better the ways in which people manage information for subsequent re-access and re-use

I’ve added a link in my IA link’s category to remember about it. They have a loto of papers on the topic.

While the problem of information retrieval (helping people to find the small set of things they are looking for inside a very large collection of things) has been addressed by a lot of studies and papers, little attention has been dedicated to a related problem.

Once found, how are things organized for re-access and re-use later on? What can be done to avoid the need to repeat the entire search process? We refer to this as the problem of Keeping Found Things Found.

The current project focuses on the World Wide Web and specifically on three different profiles of users: managers, researchers, librarians and other information specialists.

A lot of good pieces to read at Keeping Found Things Found.
