I’m happy to see that social tagging has been “promoted” to an academical topic being discussed all over the world by universities, companies and researchers. This year some very important events have been:
- the Collaborative Web Tagging Workshop (WWW 2006, Edinburgh)
- the IA Summit 2006 (not specifically thought for tagging but with a few good presentations on that)
These appointments are very effective ways to collect papers, to discover new ideas/approaches and, of course, to network with fantastic people.
Now another great event is near: SIG/CR (ASIS&T’s Special Interest Group on Classification Research) is organizing the 17th Annual Classification Research Workshop.
The workshop will be held in Austin, TX, on November 4, 2006 and the main theme will be “Social Classification: Panacea or Pandora?”
The workshop includes a poster session as well as nine full papers. Researchers, practitioners, and students interested in social classification, folksonomies, social tagging, social bookmarking, collaborative indexing, collaborative annotation, etc., are invited to participate. Attendees will have the opportunity to contribute to the debate by actively participating in the workshop’s open panel sessions.
The web page with the program already presents a number of the final papers, but I’m very tempted to fly to Texas.
Anyone of you will be there?
